Wildfire Awareness Week in Island Park

Last week, Island Park Sustainable Fire Community held its annual Wildfire Awareness Week.  The Idaho Falls District Bureau of Land Management (BLM) participated in activies on Friday, July 24th, and Saturday, July 25th.  Smokey Bear was there to greet children and take photos with familes.  Both the BLM and the Caribou-Targhee National Forest had wildland fire engines on site, and some visitors even got to spray water from the fire hose.  Employees were on hand to answer questions and provide information on Firewise as well as a planned fuels treatment project in the Shotgun Valley area.  Youth had a chance to win prizes by answering wildland fire trivia questions.

For more information on the Shotgun Valley Fuels Reduction and Forest Restoration Project, visit the BLM's ePlanning site.  The Island Park Sustainable Fire Community also has a variety of resources and information for residents and homeowners on their website.
