Fire Danger Rating: EXTREME National Wildfire Preparedness Moves to Highest Level (PL 5)
Fires will start easily, spread rapidly, have a quick increase in intensity and can be very difficult to control.
Stage II Fire Restrictions in effect within Grangeville & Coeur d’Alene Dispatch Restriction Areas
Weather: There is a Red Flag Warning until 8:00 pm tonight
Mostly cloudy with scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms today with the cold front. A second round of storms tonight with the incoming parent low, these will be accompanied by the potential for abundant lighting and may produce damaging winds, large hail and heavy rainfall in the afternoon and evening. Temperatures today -highs in the mid to upper 80s with lows in the upper 40s to mid 50s. Southwest wind today 10 to 20 mph. Gusts up to 30 mph in the afternoon and to 35 mph tonight. Chance of precipitation 50 % today and 30 % tonight, with rainfall amounts less than a tenth of an inch...except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. The front will usher in cooler temperatures and eventually better humidity recoveries. Additional shower and thunderstorm chances will come in through next week.
Incident Summary: Listing of active fires (attached).
- Parker Ridge Fire 1,200 acres, zero% containment. 7/29 start. NW of Bonners Ferry, Type 3 Incident Management Team (IMT) (Weeks). Firefighters on structure protection and line construction with aviation water drops to slow fire’s progress.
- Marble Creek Fire 90 acres, zero% containment. 8/11 start. St. Joe RD Type 3 IMT (Almas )
- Slaughter House Fire 47 acres, 75% containment. 8/10 start, under Idaho Dept. of Lands-West St. Joe Type 3 Incident Commander (IC) (Verlancik)
- North Grizzly Fire 100 acres, 8/12 start, under Type 3 IMT (Day) fire activity on all flanks of fire
- Not Creative Fire 15 acres 8/13 start, ICT 3, under Idaho Dept. of Lands- Cataldo near Rose Lake
- Tower Fire 150 acres in Idaho, fire started in Colville National Forest, is visible from Priest Lake. Fire came east of South Baldy Mountain. Burning in heavy timber and downfall. Type 4 IC.
Additional Information:
- Closures: Coeur d’Alene River Ranger District due to the Grizzly Mountain Fire: Forest Roads # 260, #959, #993, #994, #1568 and Forest Trails #807 (Indian Creek) and 807A (Indian Creek). The Bennett Peak Fire Closure: Forest Road #602 (Little Guard Road) and Forest Trail #81 (Shoshone Ridge). Under this closure order, the public is prohibited to go into or be upon these roads and trails.
- Closures: Bonners Ferry Ranger District due to the Parker Ridge Fire: Parker Ridge Trail #221 (Sections 7 and 8 of T64N, R1W and sections 12, 13, 14, 15, 2, and 27 of R2W) and the Fisher Peak Trail. Under this closure order, the public is prohibited to go into or be upon this trail.
- Lightning storms continue to create new fires across north Idaho with the majority located on the St. Joe and Coeur d’Alene River Ranger Districts. Most are less than a tenth of an acre. Due to the fires being lightning caused, most are located on ridge tops and do not pose imminent threat to structures.
