Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests evening update for September 11

Kamiah, Idaho – The return of above normal temperatures has increased fire activity on the Tepee Springs fire, causing fire managers and forest staff to request that visitors avoid travel on the Grangeville-Salmon Road 221 south from its junction with Road 643. A portion of the Tepee Springs fire is located on the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests, west of Florence.

Reducing risk to firefighters and the public is the first priority in every fire management activity. Please do not try to access an area that has active fire or attempt to access a closed area. Fire is unpredictable and should be treated as very dangerous.

The closure and restriction situation is dynamic; individuals planning to visit the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests are encouraged to contact any of the Forests’ offices or visit the Forest online at www.fs.usda.gov/nezperceclearwater and click the “fire information” tab for the latest fire information and a current map of closures.
