EASTERN IDAHO WILDFIRE UPDATE

IDAHO FALLS, ID:

The Rocky Peak Fire was controlled on Friday, August 5 at 6:30 pm.  This fire is located approximately
10 miles north of Preston, ID.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.   At this time there are no
resources on the fire.  This is the last report unless significate activity occurs.

The Big Elk Fire is located 10 miles north of Alpine, WY, and is estimated at 55 acres.  Recent winds, dry conditions and very steep slopes have caused fire growth and brought fire downhill near the Elk Creek Trail (FS Trail 097).  Crews are working on reducing fuels and improving line near the bottom of the slope in more favorable terrain.  The public is asked to avoid the area to reduce congestion with firefighting activities.  (Big Elk Fire Photo 080516 @1700)

Resources:  Three engines, 10 person Wildland Fire Module and a helicopter as needed.             Start Date:  7/26 Cause:  Lightning

The Lanes Creek Fire is located 9 air miles west of Freedom, Wyoming.  The fire is being managed to meet multiple objectives, including allowing fire to play its natural role in the ecosystem by removing dense conifers and encouraging aspen regeneration.  A web camera allows fire personnel to monitor the fire constantly, while firefighters on the ground have completed pre-treatments to minimize the fire’s potential impact to state and private lands.  The fire has shown little activity since the last mapped perimeter of 128 acres.  Limited resources are assigned to the fire; however, managers are prepared to increase the staffing to meet the needs of the incident.  An Emergency Closure Order is in effect, closing the Lau Creek Trail (FS Trail 020) from the Pine Bar Campground to the confluence of Brush Creek.
