POCATELLO, ID – Firefighters report
receiving a ¼ inch of rain on the fire overnight, allowing fire managers to
release crews from the fire this morning. Fire managers fully contained the
fire last night and anticipate calling the fire controlled at 6 p.m. this
evening. The fire perimeter is fully secure and there are no visible smokes on
the fire as of 3 p.m. this afternoon.
Today the remaining Idaho Falls
District (IFD) Bureau of Land Management (BLM) engine and dozer will
rehabilitate the fire line. To accomplish rehabilitation, they will put in
water bars and seed the dozer line to prevent erosion. They will also put in
tank traps and boulders to prevent the public from doing unnecessary damage to
the area. Please allow the landscape to recover.
This will be the last operational
shift on the Gap Fire. The BLM will continue to monitor the fire area over the
course of the week to ensure fire activity is done before calling the Gap Fire
out.
