Menan Butte Fire Update

Start Date: 07/01/2017

Location and Jurisdiction:  Off of Twin Butte Road across from the Menan Butte Trailhead, BLM

Cause: Human – evidence suggests fireworks, the investigation is ongoing

Fire Size: 212 acres, grew from 30 acres

Percent Contained:  20% containment. Full containment estimated for tomorrow night.

Fire Behavior: Fire is creeping and backing.

Structures Threatened:  No immediate threat to structures.

Fuels and Terrain:  Burning in grass and sage brush.

Fire Crews/Resources: 13 engines (multiple agencies) and 2 dozers. 3 single engine air tankers and 1 heavy air tanker dropped retardant in the evening till dark.

Evacuations:  None in effect at this time.

Closures:  None.

Summary:  Storms that came over the area in the late afternoon brought erratic winds that rekindled hot spots in the interior of the fire. Multiple retardant drops were made on the advancing portion of the fire and dozer line is securing the fire perimeter. Some crews will stay overnight to monitor the fire and continue to mop up the fire perimeter. No structures were threatened and no roads were closed.
