Increased fire activity in Profile Creek yesterday afternoon prompted the closure of the Warren-Profile Gap Road from its junction with the Stibnite Road to the Lick Creek Trailhead. The fire has not crossed the road but is directly adjacent. Most of the fire growth that occurred yesterday was in Missouri Creek, moving east into the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness where it is being closely monitored by fire managers.

The Payette National Forest is working in coordination with Valley County to protect structures that may be threatened by the Missouri Fire. Community Protection Plans are in place to identify what measures would need to be taken to limit the impact to communities.

A dry cold front will enter the region today, bringing a wind shift around mid-afternoon. Winds will blow more from the northwest, which may assist firefighters along the western and northern edges. With the shift in winds, the primary potential for fire growth will be on the southeastern perimeter, south of Missouri Ridge. Firefighters will continue their efforts to limit fire spread outside of the wilderness while allowing the fire to play its natural role in the fire-adapted ecosystem of the wilderness area.

Traffic from fire support vehicles and firefighting apparatus will continue to be heavy through Johnson Creek and the Stibnite Road. Please use extreme caution and drive slowly if you are traveling through the area.

There are no evacuations at this time. Locals are, however, encouraged to consider what they would take in the event they did need to evacuate. The Ready, Set, Go Program (www.wildlandfirersg.org) has helpful tips for preparation. A simple way to remember necessities is with the 5 Ps: People and Pets, Papers, Prescriptions, Pictures, and Personal Computers.

Closures: The Payette National Forest implemented an area closure surrounding the fire area. Areas east of the Warren-Profile Road, north of Stibnite Road, and south of Lick Creek are closed. Maps and complete details of the closure can be found by visiting InciWeb. Due to increased fire activity, the Warren-Profile Gap Road between Yellowpine and Edwardsburg/Big Creek is closed for public and firefighter safety until further notice. The southern closure is at the intersection of the Stibnite Road (FS412) and Warren-Profile Gap Road (FS340). Aceess from Yellowpine to Stibnite is open.
