Wildfire starts northeast of Lowman, Idaho
BOISE, Idaho, July 21, 2017 – Crews responded to a fire on the Lowman Ranger District Thursday, July 20, at 3:30 p.m.
Located 20 miles northeast of Lowman, Idaho, near Grandjean. The 101-acre Wapiti Fire is approximately 1 mile from the Wapiti Summer Homes, which are currently not in imminent danger. The fire cause is under investigation.
About 165 firefighters are assigned to the fire: Five 20-person crews, including 3 hotshot crews, 3 helicopters and 8 engines. Additional resources are being mobilized.
Wapiti Fire activity has closed some access in the vicinity to ensure public and firefighter safety.
Closures include:
- National Forest System (NFS) trail 160 and trailhead (Wapiti Creek trail) are closed until it meets NFS trail 157.
- Warms Springs Landing Strip
- NFS road 025RB access road
