Deer Park Fire AM Update

Deer Park Fire

Start Date: 8/25/2017 at 12:30 p.m.

Location and Jurisdiction: West of Menan Butte and north of Deer Park, 12 miles west of Rexburg, Idaho on BLM

Cause: Human, under investigation

Fire Size: 11,076 acres, size change is due to aerial mapping this morning.

Percent Contained: 20% contained

Structures Threatened:  No structures are threatened at this time.

Fuels and Terrain:  Grass and brush

Fire Behavior: Fire behavior laid down during the night due to higher humidity. Fire behavior is expected to pick up later in the afternoon when it is dry and windy.

Fire Crews/Resources: 9 engines, 4 dozers, 3 water tenders. Additional engines have been ordered. Air attack is flying the fire this morning and will call air resources as needed.

Evacuations:  The gun range, Unified Sportsmen’s Club, off of Hwy 33 and west of Menan Butte remains closed to the public, it is being used by firefighters as the incident command post.

Closures:  Highway 33 reopened around 10:30 p.m. last night. No closures at this time.

Summary:  Fire activity subsided overnight due to higher humidity. Firefighters are taking advantage of the decreased fire activity this morning by securing more of the fire perimeter. The most active portion of the fire is the west flank, which is approximately three miles from I-15. Winds are expected to pick up this afternoon, which will increase fire activity.
