Hanover Fire Update August 10, 2017

Fire Update: Crews and equipment continued their work on fireline and fuel break construction on the western side of the fire. Heavy equipment worked along the 394,643, and 221 roads constructing a fuel break.. Fireline was completed from the junction of roads 394 and 9919 down to the Salmon River. As visibility allowed, helicopters dropped water throughout the day.

On Thursday, heavy equipment will continue removing fuel and constructing a fuel break along roads on the western edge. Structure protection is in place for Florence, McMeekin Ranch, the Wind River Pack Bridge and other sites along the Salmon River Road near the fire. Firefighters will prepare the Southwest flank for a burnout operation to remove fuel and strengthen the line. Helicopters will provide water drops on hotspots. Firefighters will continue scouting the northern flank for fireline location.

An area and road closure (Order No. 01-17-01-17-014) is in effect.
The closure area is defined within: starting at the junction of FS RD 221/444 traveling south along FS RD 221 to the junction of FS RD 221/354. Traveling west on FS RD 354 to the junction of FS RD354 and Forest Boundary.
Following the Forest Boundary to the south until it intercepts with FS RD 441. Traveling south on FS RD 441 to the junction of FS RD 441/536. Traveling south on FS RD 536 to the junction of FS RD 536/221. Traveling south on FS RD 221 to County RD 1614 (Salmon River Road). Traveling east along County RD 1614 to the junction of Wind River Pack Bridge and FS Trail 312. Traveling north along FS Trail 312 to FS RD 444. Traveling west along FS RD 444 to the junction of FS RD 444 and FS RD 221 the point of beginning. ·         FS RD 354 will remain open to the North Fork Slate Creek Campground. Campground will remain open.
·         River Camps and boat traffic along Main Salmon River are open to the public adjacent to closure area.
·         Salmon River is open to all activities.
·         County Road 1614 (Salmon River road) is open.
·         FS RD 221 is open from County Road 1614 to FSRD 221/263.

Weather: Temperature and humidity will continue hot and dry through Friday with a chance for isolated thunderstorms each afternoon. Winds will be light from the north and mainly driven by the terrain.
Special Concerns: The fire is slowly moving down slope to the Salmon River. Drivers on the Salmon River Road east of Riggins should use caution due to increased firefighter equipment and activity. As the fire gets closer to the Salmon River, helicopters may start dipping from the river. Rafters and recreationists should stay alert to avoid helicopter activity.
