Location and Jurisdiction: North of Menan Butte, in Rexburg, Idaho on BLM
Cause: Shooting
Fire Size: 50 acres
Percent Contained: 100% contained on August 20 at 10 p.m.
Structures Threatened: No
Fuels and Terrain: Grass and brush
Fire Crews/Resources: 5 engines, 2 dozers
Evacuations: No evacuations at this time
Closures: No closures
Summary: Shooting can spark wildfires. Help prevent them by following these tips:
● Check weather conditions. Hot + Dry + Wind = Quick Spreading Wildfires
● Choose a shooting area that is clear of dry grass, vegetation and rocks.
● Discharging a firearm using incendiary, steel core or tracer ammunition is prohibited on BLM lands from May 10 to Oct. 20.
● Burning, igniting or causing explosive material to burn, including exploding targets is prohibited on BLM lands from May 10 to Oct. 20.
● Always bring water, a fire extinguisher and a shovel.
