Start Date: 8/20/2017 at 1600

Location and Jurisdiction: North of Menan Butte, in Rexburg, Idaho on BLM

Cause: Shooting

Fire Size: 50 acres

Percent Contained: 100% contained on August 20 at 10 p.m.

Structures Threatened:  No

Fuels and Terrain:  Grass and brush

Fire Crews/Resources: 5 engines, 2 dozers

Evacuations:  No evacuations at this time

Closures:  No closures


Summary:  Shooting can spark wildfires. Help prevent them by following these tips:

           Check weather conditions. Hot + Dry + Wind = Quick Spreading Wildfires
           Choose a shooting area that is clear of dry grass, vegetation and rocks.
           Discharging a firearm using incendiary, steel core or tracer ammunition is prohibited on BLM lands from May 10 to Oct. 20.
           Burning, igniting or causing explosive material to burn, including exploding targets is prohibited on BLM lands from May 10 to Oct. 20.
           Always bring water, a fire extinguisher and a shovel.
