Powerline Fire Update Evening, August 8, 2017

Fire Information: 208-238-8385

 @BLMIdahoFire          USFSCaribouTarghee

Various storms with heavy lightning activity was experienced on the fire line. Rain, lower temperatures and a higher relative humidity allowed some moisture to make it to the ground and assisted the crews in the fire efforts. Minimal fire behavior with some creeping, smoldering, and single tree torching occurred within the containment line in unburned islands.  Containment is up to 47% with the acreage to 53,706.

Wood chipping will commence tomorrow at the southern portion of the perimeter in Pauline to take away any potential hazards.  Dozers, engines and hand crews will continue to strengthen and secure the 72 mile fire perimeter especially around and adjacent structures.

Helicopter resources will be used to help crews identify and secure areas of concern along the containment lines to mitigate any possible fire spread. Crews will also secure large areas of unburned fuels within the containment lines.

With another round of thunderstorms expected, coupled with winds, and hail, crews will relentlessly monitor the fire perimeter and structures to prevent unexpected fire growth outside the containment lines.

Multiple engines, hand crews, water tenders and a dozer at the southern portion of the fire, will focus on many areas to include in and around Crystal creek.  There continues to be a great amount of resources in an effort to secure this section against high winds and possible thunderstorm activity in this area.

The Arbon Valley Highway continues to stay open for public traffic. Be careful on this road and reduce your speed as there may be cows in the roadway displaced by the fire.
