AMERICAN
FALLS, Idaho – Fire activity subsided dramatically as cool, wet weather moved
into the area. Firefighters made significant progress during the last 24 hours
and do not expect additional perimeter growth. The helicopter flying the
perimeter of the Coldwater Fire estimates the fire to be around 800 acres and
70 percent contained.
“Firefighters
are focusing operational efforts on removing heat from torching juniper
stands,” said Incident Commander Marcus Green. “The precipitation definitely
helped slow the fire’s progression, allowing us to focus on bolstering
containment lines.” Green is confident the fire will be contained later this
evening.
Resources
on the fire currently include: six heavy engines, one light engine, one dozer
and the Portneuf fuels crew.
