AMERICAN FALLS, Idaho – Eastern Idaho Interagency Fire Center (EIIFC) was notified of a fire southwest of American Falls, Idaho around 2:00 p.m., June 14. Engines were immediately dispatched to the scene. The fire is burning on both federal and private lands in grass, shrubs and junipers. Fire officials estimate the current size of the fire at 450 acres. Five federal engines, American Falls Fire Department, local farmers and a type II helicopter are on scene working to contain the blaze.

Two engines are conducting a small burnout operation on the western edge of the fire to prevent it from spreading further in that direction. The helicopter is dropping water on torching junipers in the steep cliffs to the north. If operations go well, the incident commander expects to have the fire contained Friday, June 15 around 8:00 p.m. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
