Start Date: 07/15/2018

Location and Jurisdiction: 5 miles east of Sage Junction, south of Highway 33 (BLM)

Cause: Under investigation

Fire Size: estimated at 1,000 acres

Percent Contained:  50%, full containment estimated for 7/16/18 at 8 p.m.

Fire Behavior: Fire activity has subsided to creeping and smoldering. 

Structures Threatened:  No immediate threat to structures.

Fuels and Terrain:  Burning in grass and brush on flat ground.

Fire Crews/Resources: 16 engines & 4 water tenders (BLM, USFS, Central Fire District, Hamer VFD & Roberts VFD), 2 dozers, 1 helicopter & 3 retardant planes worked the fire today.

Evacuations:  None in effect.

Closures:  NoneHighway 33 has reopened.

Summary: The North Butte Fire started at approximately 4:45 p.m. today 5 miles east of Sage Junction, south of Highway 33 in the Menan Butte area. BLM, Forest Service, Central Fire District, Hamer VFD and Roberts VFD worked together to fight the fire. The fire now has water, retardant or dozer line all around it and is expected to be contained tomorrow at 8 p.m. Resources will stay on the fire overnight. The fire ran into the Deer Park Fire scar from last year, which helped slow the North Butte Fire.
