Rattlesnake Creek Fire Evening Update

Kamiah, Idaho (July 24, 2018) – The Rattlesnake Creek fire, located on the west side of highway 95 near Pollock on the Nez Perce-Clearwater and Payette National Forests, was reported at 12:02 p.m. yesterday.  Mike Almas’ Northern Rockies Type 2 Incident Management Team will assume command of the fire at 6:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.  The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Movement to the north prompted pre-evacuation notices to Pollock and Whitewater Wilderness Ranch Estate residents.  For more information, please visit the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

Multiple structures outside of the pre-evacuation area continued to be threatened by the fire and local residents are encouraged to monitor the Adams and Idaho County Sheriff’s Facebook pages.

The Rattlesnake Creek fire continues to actively burn in timber and grass and is estimated to be 4,000 acres.   The fire has consumed acres to the west along with some movement to the north and south along Highway 95.

Firefighting resources focused efforts today on Point Protection, actions to stop the forward progression of the fire towards primary residences along Highway 95 and to the north.  No structures have been lost at this time.  Firefighters also constructed fire line to the north of the fire.

Currently there are over 300 firefighting personnel assigned to the fire and resources include multiple aviation, engine and ground resources from federal, state, and local agencies.

Traffic control measures are in place by the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office along Highway 95 for public and firefighter safety.  Please avoid the area if possible and do not stop along the roadway. Travelers may experience limited visibility due to smoke in the canyon corridor.
