Start Date: 07/24/2018

Location and Jurisdiction: 5 miles west of Rexburg, south of Highway 33 (Private & BLM)

Cause: Under investigation

Fire Size: estimated 600 acres

Percent Contained:  50% contained, containment estimated for 7/25/18 at 2 p.m.

Fire Behavior: Creeping and smoldering. 

Structures Threatened:  No immediate threat to structures.

Fuels and Terrain:  Burning in grass and brush on flat ground.

Fire Crews/Resources: 15 engines and 5 water tenders (BLM, USFS, BIA, Central Fire District, Madison County Fire Department, Hamer VFD & Roberts VFD), 2 dozers and 1 helicopter. Multiple retardant drops were made.

Evacuations:  None in effect.

Closures:  Highway 33 has reopened. Closure information is available through Madison County Sheriff’s Department

Summary: The Twin Butte Fire started at approximately 1:45 p.m. today 5 miles west of Rexburg, south of Highway 33 in the Menan Butte area. BLM, Forest Service, BIA, Central Fire District, Madison County Fire Department, Hamer VFD and Roberts VFD are working together to fight the fire. The fire did jump Highway 33 and moved northward. Forward progression of the fire has stopped at this time and firefighters are working to secure the perimeter. The Twin Butte Fire is expected to be contained tomorrow at 2 p.m.
