Start Date: 07/07/2018

Location and Jurisdiction: 1 mile southeast of Malad, east of Interstate-15 near mile marker 13. Burning on the Caribou-Targhee National Forest

Cause: Human – under investigation

Fire Size: 146 acres

Percent Contained:  50%

Fire Behavior: Minimal fire activity with occasional torching of juniper.

Structures Threatened:  No immediate threat to structures.

Fuels and Terrain:  Burning in grass, brush and juniper. Burning in steep ground. 

Fire Crews/Resources: 3 engines, 2 handcrews, 2 helicopters, 1 water tender and 2 dozers on scene at this time.

Evacuations:  None in effect at this time.

Closures:  Road guards are in place at Trail Hollow road, Frontage road and TwoMile road near the fire area.

Summary: Firefighters with the assistance of helicopter water drops and single engine air tanker retardant drops were able to achieve 50% containment today. Arroyo Grande Hotshots and a 20-person handcrew are securing the fire perimeter this evening and will continue to do so tomorrow. Expect to see occasional torching of juniper and smoke in the area as the inversion layer settles in for the night.
