Prescribed Fire Postponed on Caribou-Targhee NF in the Palisades Ranger District

SWAN VALLEY, ID -- The Fall Creek prescribed fire has been postponed due to a long trend of dry and breezy weather conditions and ongoing support with local resources to large wildfire incidents in Idaho, Utah and Wyoming. Working closely with the National Weather Service, fire managers will be assessing daily favorable weather for implementation which may occur during the last week of September or first week of October. The objective of this project is to improve wildlife habitat by promoting Aspen regeneration. Supporting partners on this project included the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Idaho Department of Fish and Game. Once implementation begins the following trails will be closed. FS Trail 260 (Bear Creek/Sheep) from the trailhead at FS Road 017 (Commissary Road) to the intersection with FS Trail 262 (Bear Creek/Sheep) and FS Trail 262 (4th of July Ridge from the intersection of FS Trail 306 to the intersection with FS Trail 260). We encourage recreational users to stay informed and use caution if recreating in the vicinity of the prescribed burn. Please contact the Palisades Rangers District at 208-523-1412 with any questions.
