Prescribed Fire Update on Caribou-Targhee NF in the Palisades Ranger District

SWAN VALLEY, Id. -- The Fall Creek Prescribed Fire on the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, in the Palisades Ranger District, has been postponed to Monday September 17, 2018. Determining the exact timing of implementation is difficult due to many different variables.
Current and expected weather is one of those variables assessed closely and due to the breezy conditions expected this week, the prescribed fire has been postponed until next week. Working closely with the National Weather Service, fire managers believe next week should provide favorable weather for implementation.
Once implementation begins it is expected to extend into the following weekend. The objective of this project is to improve wildlife habitat by promoting Aspen regeneration. Supporting partners on this project included the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Idaho Department of Fish and Game. Smoke may be visible from Swan Valley, Idaho and Alpine, Wyoming areas during implementation.
During implementation of the prescribed fire the following trails will be closed. FS Trail 260 (Bear Creek/Sheep) from the trailhead at FS Road 017 (Commissary Road) to the intersection with FS Trail 262 (Bear Creek/Sheep) and FS Trail 262 (4th of July Ridge from the intersection of FS Trail 306 to the intersection with FS Trail 260). We encourage recreational users to stay informed and use caution if recreating in the vicinity of the prescribed burn. Please contact the Palisades Rangers District at 208-423-1412 with any questions.
