DUBOIS,
Idaho – Firefighters responded to the Blue Creek Fire
at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. The fire, which was located approximately 16 miles west
of Dubois, ignited due to dry lightning in the area. Initially estimated at 400
acres, more accurate mapping, as well as a better visual in the morning hours, showed
the fire was only 88 acres in size. Difficult access to the fire impeded suppression
efforts, but firefighters were able to construct line around 80% of the fire by
this morning.
Firefighters will continue suppression efforts
today and monitor the area for isolated thunderstorms and gusty winds. Thirty-one
personnel are on scene bolstering containment lines to prepare for gusty winds
with predicted afternoon storms. The incident commander expects to have the
fire 100% contained by this afternoon.
