Public Notice, Prescribed Fire

Boise District Office, Idaho
Contact: Ben Sitz (208) 384-3387

Monday, July 29, 2019

The Boise District Bureau of Land Management (BLM) would like to notify you of the time and location of land management treatments (Prescribed Fire) in the vicinity of Juniper Mountain and Trout Springs.

In accordance with the BLM’s Owyhee Field Office Resource Management Plan and Trout Springs and Hanley Fenced Federal Range allotments Permit Renewal Environmental Assessment it has been determined that western juniper treatments are necessary.  In combination with a grazing decision implementing changes to livestock management the two decisions will further improve upland and riparian conditions, moving the area much closer to reference conditions impaired due to western juniper encroachment.
The Trout Springs Prescribed fire will utilize both hand and aerial ignition to complete the prescribed burn over a window of 7 days for a total of 13,734 acres. During the prescribed burn large sections of burn unit will be ignited each day (+2,000 acres) posing a danger to the public who are in the burn boundary or that may be have equipment (camp, game cameras) setup. Therefore the BLM is advising the public to avoid leaving equipment within the burn perimeter as well as avoiding hunting or camping within the burn unit during this time. Temporary travel delays may occur along the Juniper Mountain road during the actual ignition of the unit. BLM will make every effort to allow travel along the route as soon as it is deemed safe but delays may be several hours.
The BLM encourages the public to call with questions, concerns, or inquire as to the specific location where the prescribed fire will take place. The following provides the location and dates of upcoming treatments:
