The BLM with the assistance of the BIA and Pocatello Valley Volunteer Fire Department have contained the Blackrock Fire August 2 at 6 p.m. The entrance to Blackrock Canyon has reopened. Firefighters will continue extinguishing hot spots until control is reached at approximately 8/3/2019 at 6 p.m. Blackrock Fire has been mapped at 5 acres. This is the final update unless significant activity occurs.
Start Date: August 2, 2019, detected at 2:40 p.m.
Location and Jurisdiction: 3 miles east of Pocatello near Blackrock Canyon on BLM.
Cause: Lightning.
Fire Size: 5 acres
Percent Contained: Contained at 8/2/2019 at 6 p.m. Control estimated for 8/3/19 at 6 p.m.
Fire Behavior: Some heat remains.
Fuels and Terrain: Grass and juniper. Steep terrain.
Fire Crews/Resources: 4 engines (BLM & BIA). Pocatello Valley Volunteer Fire Department assisted with 2 pump trucks, 1 tender, 1 brush truck, and 1 quick response truck.
Structures Threatened: No structures threatened.
Evacuations: No evacuations.
Closures: No Closures.
