The entrance to Blackrock Canyon has been blocked off and the public is asked to avoid the area while firefighters work to suppress the fire. The fire is approximately at 5 acres and containment is estimated tonight, August 2 at 6 p.m. Firefighters will work with single engine air tankers to build containment lines around the fire.

Start Date: August 2, 2019, detected at 2:40 p.m.  
Location and Jurisdiction: 3 miles east of Pocatello near Blackrock Canyon on BLM.
Cause: Lightning.
Fire Size: 5 acres
Percent Contained: Containment estimated for 8/2/2019 at 6 p.m. Control estimated for 8/2/19 at 10 p.m. 
Fire Behavior: Running and smoldering.
Fuels and Terrain: Grass and juniper. Steep terrain.
Fire Crews/Resources: 4 engines (BLM & BIA) and 1 dozer. Single engine air tankers en route.
Structures Threatened: No structures threatened at this time.
Evacuations: No evacuations.
Closures: The entrance to Blackrock Canyon has been blocked off.
