IDAHO FALLS, Idaho – The Desert Ride Fire continues burning this evening as 15 mph winds and dry flashy fuels propel the fire further into the desert. Over 77 firefighters have responded and are on scene assisting with firefighting operations. The incident commander estimates the fire is now at 7500 acres and growing with active, wind-driven runs.

Sage-grouse habitat is the primary concern with several thousand acres already consumed and thousands more threatened. A cold front passing over the fire tonight is expected to bring gusty winds. Resources will continue constructing dozer lines and knocking down the active fire with water from their engines on the east and west flanks. Crews will work throughout the night to build and secure the fire line.

If efforts go well tonight, firefighters anticipate reaching containment at 10 p.m. on August 13. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
