Start Date: 07/19/2020 at approximately 3:00 P.M.
Location and Jurisdiction: 1 Mile South of Pocatello (BLM and Private)
Cause: Sparks from a grinder landing in dry grass.
Fire Size: 1546 Acres
Percent Contained: 100% contained at 7/21/2020 at 8 p.m.
Fire Behavior: Perimeter has been secured, but heat still remains with the interior the fire perimeter.
Fuels and Terrain: Grass, brush and juniper.
Fire Crews/Resources: 5 engines (BLM & FS), 1 helicopter, 2 BLM dozers, and 5 handcrews. Pocatello FD, Chubbuck FD, Inkom, North Bannock and Pocatello Valley FD engines.
Structures Threatened: No structures currently threatened.
Evacuations: No evacuations.
Closures: Road closures in effect along Barton Road to Chinese Peak.
Summary: The Chinese Peak Fire has been fully contained as of 7/21/2020 at 8 p.m. Two hand crews and 2 engines and a dozer with remain on the fire over the next few days in order to finish extinguishing any remaining hot spots deep within the fire perimeter. The Pocatello Fire Department with the assistance of BLM, have determined that the fire was human caused. The fire started in the area of Stockman Road when a resident was working on his car with a grinder. A spark landed in the dry brush and subsequently started the fire.
