Howe Peak Fire
Start Date: July 2, 2020 at approximately 1 p.m.
Location and
Jurisdiction: Started 4 miles southwest
of Howe, Idaho, along Highway 33. Started on BLM and has burned INL and USFS.
Cause: Human caused - under investigation
Fire Size: 6,621 acres
Percent
Contained: 60% contained, containment estimated
for 7/4/2020 at 6 p.m.
Fire Behavior: hot spots within the interior of the fire
perimeter
Fuels and Terrain: Grass, shrubs and juniper in steep terrain.
Fire
Crews/Resources: 6 engines, 1 dozer, 4 handcrews, 1 water
tender, and 1 helicopter (BLM & USFS).
Structures Threatened: No structures threatened.
Evacuations: No evacuations
Closures: No closures
Firefighters will continue securing the west side of the fire and mopping up hot spots.
Sage Junction Fire
Start Date: July 3, 2020 at approximately 12:30 p.m.
Location and
Jurisdiction: Started 4 miles south
of Hamer. BLM lands.
Cause: Human caused - under investigation
Fire Size: 117 acres
Percent
Contained: 80% contained,
full containment expected July 3, 2020 at 10 p.m.
Fire Behavior: smoldering within the fire perimeter
Fuels and Terrain: Grass and shrubs on flat ground.

engines remain on scene (BLM & USFS)
Structures Threatened: No structures threatened.
Evacuations: No evacuations
Closures: No closures
Federal firefighters
along with Hamer FD, West Jefferson FD, Roberts FD and Central FD were able to
quickly stop the fire spread this afternoon. Firefighters expect to contain the
fire this evening, July 3 at 10 p.m.
