The Black Canyon fire was reported to South Central Idaho Interagency Dispatch Center around 4 p.m. on July 3. Isolated thunderstorms, gusty winds and continuous fuel caused the fire to grow quickly. Bliss Rural Fire Department (RFD) and Twin Falls District BLM engine crews, along with aircraft, are working to construct containment lines around the fire.
Black Canyon Fire
● Location: approximately 5 miles northeast
of Bliss, on the north side of Highway 26
● Size: estimated over 50 acres
● Containment: estimated 7/3 at 11 p.m.
● Control: estimated 7/4 6 p.m.
● Resources: Bliss RFD, three TFD engines,
one Air Attack, three Single Engine Air Tankers, one Heavy Air Tanker and one Very Large Air
Tanker, and three overhead.
● Fuel type: grass and brush
● Fire behavior: running
● Structures threatened: none
● Cause: under investigation
