Idaho Fire Incident Map

Tuesday, August 11, 2020

Today the Twin Falls District BLM finished the last of a six mile fuel break along the east side of Highway 93 near Shoshone. This project was in coordinated with Idaho Power.

Roadside starts are prevalent along this stretch of Highway 93. One small spark from a chain dragging or improperly inflated tire can ignite a devastating wildfire. By putting a dozer line, or “fuel break”, along this stretch will help with fire suppression efforts. It will provide firefighters a safer area to engage and slow the spread of a wildfire.

If you are traveling, please check your tires and chains! One of the most common causes of roadside fires is tire wires and rims striking the asphalt sparking wildfires. One spark from a dragging chain can also start multiple roadside fires.
